Research Interests: information literacy, collaborative learning

Eric Jennings has taught an information literacy course at the honors level for over three years and believes that the library's role in teaching information literacy should move beyond the research paper or learning how to use a database. Instead, he believes that learning concepts that can be applied in a variety of contexts (at home, at work, at school) are essential for an informed citizenry. In order to do this, he uses Socratic questioning, dialogue, and daily reflection as techniques to engage students in their learning.

Additionally, by moving away from the "sage on the stage" and toward a classroom that is collaboratively administered, students become active participants in their own learning. Using contemporary readings and discussing events, ideas, and technologies that students are familiar with further engages students and makes learning fun and easier.
